Toor Dal is yellow colored lentil flat on one side, oblong in shape, used widely in Indian cooking. Pigeon pea is commonly known as arhar dal or split toor (tuvar) dal. It has its origins in the Eastern part of peninsular India.


CULINARY USAGE


Combine the dal, onions, tomatoes, green chilli, turmeric powder and 2 cups of water in a pressure cooker, mix well and pressure cook for 3 whistles.
Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid. Temper it with oil/ Ghee, Cumin seeds & spices
Serve hot with Rice, Roti, Parathas
